Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police Legal Defense Plan

The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police (MNFOP) is delighted to reveal that we have implemented improvements to our Legal Defense Plan (add link which needs updating), effective November 1, 2024. We have entered into an agreement with a new law firm, Caplan & Tamburino, for our Minnesota off-duty legal defense plan (LDP). In parallel with the Minnesota off-duty LDP, we have forged a partnership with the National FOP Lodge, Legal Defense Plan, for on-duty incidents, and retired/conceal and carry coverage. This provides our members with the opportunity to select meticulously and suitably from a range of options that best cater to their legal defense needs.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The Fraternal Order of Police offers a variety of medical insurance plans to fit our members needs. All plans are coordinated at the national FOP but in coordination with MN FOP. Here are the plans available:
Insurance for working police officers (Stage 1 pilot program) - inquire with your local lodge for more information
“Pre-65” Insurance - You have retired (no minimum years of service) from law enforcement but have not reached the age of 65 for Medicare
“Post-65” Insurance - You are retired and now qualify for Medicare - this is a supplemental plan

The National FOP has contracted with Thin Blue Line Benefits to facilitate these plans. The first step is to join any Minnesota FOP lodge then enroll in the plan that best serves your needs. Enrollment information can be found at:

For retired Minnesota FOP members

The Fraternal Order of Police provides its members with top shelf PPO Health Insurance for retired members under age 65. Enrollment is online.

Who is eligible for coverage?
Retired FOP Members under age 65
Spouses under age 65
Dependent children under age 26 (when on a plan with an eligible parent)
Retired sworn law enforcement officers credentialed through their state with full police powers, who join the FOP
Retired civilian law enforcement support personnel who worked directly for a law enforcement agency and join the FOP as an Associate Member
