Brew Pub Pizza (Bernatellos Foods) partnered with Star Bank in Eden Prairie to host a "Drive Thru Difference Day" on May 21st. Members of the public stopped by and bought Patriot Pizza by the slice or whole pie with the profits going to the MN FOP Foundation, in particular the newly formed K9 Therapy Dog program. Over $1500 was raised from this event.
Despite the rainy day there was a huge turnout as people were able to meet K9 Rip & Summit along with handlers Tom & Paige Lowery. These dogs are a state-wide asset that can be deployed to assist with first responders after a specific incident or just a routine visit. With the mental health challenges facing law enforcement this type of therapy has been widely accepted and continues to grow. The challenge here is that therapy dogs have not been readily available in greater Minnesota, until now. The handlers donate their time and training provided at no cost by Soldiers 6 Service K9's. Money raised through the MN FOP assists with travel costs for Rip & Summit to continue having a greater reach. This past May, there were six heroes from Minnesota honored at National Law Enforcement Memorial and Fire Memorial during services. Family and friends of these fallen officers and fire medic were able to have Rip and his handler Tom Lowery join them for Police Week in Washington, D.C. You can help keep this program alive with a small donation to the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police Foundation by visiting our website.
